I recently just got back from the island of Borneo in Malaysia. It was very hot and humid while I was there and one weekend, for some reason, I decided to head out in the middle of the afternoon on a hike with a few of my friends. It wasn’t a short and easy hike but luckily it was by a stream, so we thought. It not just didn’t keep us cooler, other than our feet, but the trail slowly disappeared as the water washed it away the farther upstream we got. None of us knew really where we were going other than the fact that a few locals had showed us where to go hiking. We were also told there was a waterfall at the end of the trail, which kept us motivated. That was the only reason we set aside all sanity on this hot, humid afternoon to toil our bodies along the trail to hopefully find this amazing waterfall at the end. If it had been any other hike, there was no way we were going to go, but that word waterfall made all the difference. We just hoped by waterfall, the locals didn’t mean a little trickle off the hill.

After over an hour and half of trudging through a trail that had seemingly gotten worse and more nonexistent, we were wondering if this waterfall was worth it when we heard a sound. The rumbling of water crashing down into the water below gave the distinct recognition that a waterfall was just around the corner. This renewed our energy had no trouble walking that last quarter mile to which we came to this magnificent waterfall in the middle of the jungle. The atmosphere was completely changed and we jumped into the pool below the falling water to cool off and enjoy the prize at the end of the trail.
