Fine Art Photography by Achim Koerfer
Monday, February 15th, 2010 by Nate Kay
Already in his childhood days, Achim Koerfer developed a passion for photography. In the years that followed, the fine art photographer from Mönchengladbach, Germany evolved his intensely personal signature style. Equipped only with his conventional reflex camera, he uses his precise grasp of marshaling multiple exposures to create images not only with the exciting and striking look of a digitally composed motif but also with a subtly compelling shift of perspective. His technique, his philosophy and the message of his works share a single, cogently simple premise: things are seldom as they seem. Topical issues of immediate relevance to the fine art photographer and to society in general serve as inspiration for his photo sequences. Koerfer rises to the challenge of taking a stand and creates photographic manifestos to express his concern in terms of striking imagery and vivid color intended to polarize opinion and invite liberating controversy. To this effect, Koerfer selects his subjects with utmost concentration, an unerring eye for in situ composition and a highly intuitive grasp of skillfully layered exposures. The result is beguiling images of intrinsic beauty whose mesmeric interplay of light and color work an inescapable charm upon the viewer.
Here are a few of his latest projects. Visit Achim’s website to view more of his photography.
2008 – SYNTHESIZED FASHION is an appeal for diversity and a rallying cry against the faceless conformism imposed by the dictates of brand- consciousness and the fashion business. Here, life and speechless mannequins are imparted personalities and a language of their own and plunged into a realm of mysterious beauty, where for one timeless moment, they are vouchsafed a depth beyond all standardization and conformity.
2009 – FLORAL IMPACT melds wild flowers and blossoms of garden varieties intriguingly to create apparently new, unreal, heretofore unknown exotic hybrids which serve to expose a Brave New World of genetic engineering behind whose unnatural beauty, encroachments into Nature and inherent environmental dangers lie hidden.
2010 – NARCOTIC SALE explores the problem of shopping as an addiction, in addition to the currently ensuing sell-out not only of commodities, but also of values. Taking up the English word ‘sale’ as international symbol of a pathological style of shopping, hypnotic images portray the compulsive shopping as compensatory strategy for a lack of inner values and as a lifestyle disease.
