A Source of Photography Inspiration

Besides deciding which camera or lens to buy, the other most often question I get asked is how one can take the next step in their photography career.

Cultural icons like Hello Kitty are so pervasive that they can sneak into your pictures quite easily. Even when you focus on them, though, they can bring a different atmosphere to the photo than you intended.

One of our authors, Christopher O’Donnell, has released 4 great eBooks over the last few months; The Golden Hour, The Golden Hour Portfolio, The Art of Bokeh, and The Art of Bokeh Portfolio. He’s put a lot of time and effort into explaining his creative process with these resources which has made them extremely valuable in furthering your own photography experience.

Having a treehouse is like having a separate universe you can escape to. You’re literally above the world, with birds and bugs (and a pile of books) to keep you company. Pictures of treehouses are like keyholes, looking into that special universe ruled by children and child-like adults.

Before the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, the city of Pripyat had almost 50,000 inhabitants, many of whom worked at the nuclear power plant close by. Abandoned 24 hours after the disaster, Pripyat has been left to decay ever since.

Photographer Gal Harpaz has a long-time love for Polaroid cameras. All of his major projects involve Polaroids in some way, including Polaroid panoramas and a series of Polaroids showing his son growing up, stretching over nine years.

As we mentioned on Twitter yesterday, the Macphun guys were getting ready to make one of their iOS apps free with a new update. And since today (April 18, 2013) is that big date that the FX Photo Studio app is free (usually $1.99), we decided to take a look at it and learn a little more about it.

Luka is a 12 year old boy who suffers from Muscular Dystrophy, a disease that causes the body to get weaker over time. His everyday activities are limited because of his lack of physical movement, but he is able to use his fingers which allows him to operate his electric wheelchair as well as slowly draw in his notebook, where his imagination has no limits.

The southern and mid-western United States are heading into tornado season now. Although living in ‘tornado alley’ is a frightening idea for some people, it’s the most exhilarating time of the year for storm chasers, who get spectacular images while tracking tornadoes.

Jolanta Żychlińska is a self-taught photographer from Legionowo, Poland, with a beautiful collection of flower and still life pictures. She’s always been passionate about photography, but for a while, she was so busy with work that she forgot about it.
