Sweets and Spices – Food Photography by Anita Waters

Anita Waters learned to love photography as a florist, when she bought her first DSLR to take pictures of her flower arrangements. She’s had no formal training but lots of time to build experience, mostly at the beach where she lives (Australia) and in her kitchen on rainy days, photographing oven-fresh cupcakes, cookies and macaroons. Her food pictures tend to focus on each delicious detail–such as powdered sugar or a few sprinkles–and might make you want to drop whatever other subject you’re working with to go photograph (and eat) cookies instead.

I love your style of photography, your use of a very shallow depth of field and a soft light makes the food look delicious. I really like the White Pearl Cupcake. Keep up the creative work.

Lovely post. I was wrestling with low lighting earlier tonight. If I ever open a restaurant I’ll have the lights up bright all the time to help out my photographing brethren.
